Cornelius, also known as Keigo Oyamada, has released a new single for the first time in 5 years, which he dared to name it just "Music". The CD consists of 4 songs, "Music", "Gum", "Clap & Whistle & Walking", and "The Star Spangle-Gayo". "Music" sounds still on the line of his former album "point". Since I expected the single to bring new sounds we've never heard, it's a little disappointing for me. I really really love "point", though. The others don't make sence to me, I'm afraid. Anyway, I strongly expect his new album which is going to be released in October. I'm sure he'll make it!
By the way, two albums of Flipper's Guitar, "Three Cheers for Our Side!" and "Camera Talk", are also going to be reissued as remastered versoins before long time. Flipper's Guitar is a legendary band which Oyamada was in from late 80s to early 90s. There're many people who think it as a symbol and/or reminder of their youth. As I have both of the originals, it's none of my business. I'd like to listen to them to know how the sounds are improved, though.
What albums are in heavy rotation for you right now?
Needless to say, Perfuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuum! ぱふむ最高!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
For more information, see: Perfume Official Site
Perfume, a group consists of three girls -- A-chan, Kashiyuka, and Nocchi --, released their 1st album "Perfume - Complete Best". The sound is like so-called techno-pop and partakes some nostalgia. It's a real masterpiece! My recent tracks chart on last.fm is completely filled with their songs :)
And you can preview them on YouTube: Perfume on YouTube.
It's an easy question. The answer is nothing but Jim O'Rourke's "Eureka" covered by ONJO!What is your favorite cover song?
Question submitted by Ray.
ONJO stands for Otomo Yoshihide's New Jazz Orchestra, a band in Japan pursuing experimental and contemporary Jazz, and covered, or rather, re-created the song featuring Kahimi Karie as a vocalist. She begins to charactistically sing like whispering, so being fascinated with her, I suddenly find that her singing has been already over and I'm thrown into confusing but cozy whirl of sound performed using various instruments.
The performance is included in their self-titled album "Otomo Yoshihide's New Jazz Orchestra". Try it if you haven't heard it ever!
Few days ago, I knew OK Go via a friend of mine, eureka, and strongly hated myself for that I had missed it until then.
OK Go is an American rock band from Chicago and debuted with its self-titled album in 2002. After that, they got decent attention as a talented new-comer, and the turning-point that they got more popurality at came in 2005. The entry on Wikipedia about the band says:
The band's second record, Oh No, was recorded in Malmö, Sweden and produced by Tore Johansson (The Cardigans, Franz Ferdinand) in the fall of 2004. Released in August 2005, it gained notoriety for its first single, "A Million Ways." Its popularity was due in large part to its video, which proved to be a viral internet sensation in the fall of 2005. The ultra-low budget, one-take video featured the band in their back yard performing a dance choreographed by lead singer Kulash's sister, Trish Sie. Using a camera borrowed from a friend, the video was produced for under ten dollars and released without the knowledge or consent of their label, Capitol Records.
Here's the video, "A Million Ways". It was uploaded to YouTube by themselves, not an attack to their copyrights by others.
Groooooooovy dance!!!
And now, they're holding a dance contest, "OK Go Dances With You(Tube) Contest". What those who want to entry the contest should do is:
- Make a video that they perform that "A Million Ways" dance
- Upload the video to YouTube
- Entry the contest from http://www.hornblowgroup.com/contest/
Not only that, they've continued uploading their videos to YouTube. The other day, They uploaded a new video, "Here It Goes Again", that's also quite cool.
It's really great that artists now have a way they can release their activities directly to their fans using the Net -- actually OK Go utilizes YouTube, Flickr and so on --, and it's the primary relationship between the artists and the fans. I hope more artists promote themselves through the Net, or rather, it's an only way for them to survive the Net era.
Thom Yorke, the key figure of Radiohead, released a new CD "The Eraser" as a solo work of himself. I've gone straight to listen to it. It sounds to me, hmm,,, it's not bad, but not impressive. To be honest, it's simply boring.
I don't dislike electronical arrangements at all, or rather, I like that kind of music. I'm afraid it doesn't get along with me this time, that's all.
菊地成孔Naruyoshi Kikuchi is a very gifted person who has various aspects, for instance, saxphonist, composer, lylicist, essayist, college teacher, man-about-town and so on. I really love his music and writings.
This week's "POPJAM DX. Live in Shibuya" featured "菊地成孔 Quintet Live Dub". I couldn't watch the program on the air, but fortunately, a friend of mine on the Net was kind enough to record the program on a video file and held it forth to me, so I could enjoy it. Thank you indeed!
The other day, Kikuchi co-worked with UA and released a new CD "Cure Jazz". UA is a genuine diva, I also love her singing as well. I've seen them acting together just one time, and that was really impressive. So I bought their CD with high expectaions.
Though I haven't been satisfied with it, it's good, at worst decent.
